The owners

Hello, we're Sandra and Matthias. In addition to this fantastic online shop, we also run a small retail store called "Ins Blaue" in Kassel. We also enrich Christmas and summer markets with our unique textiles and handicrafts from all over the world. We source our goods from various countries and regions, maintaining good relationships with all producers and providing insight into their production processes. This ensures that all our products are manufactured under fair and good working conditions.

The Beginnings

After studying organic farming in 2004, after a long night at the kitchen table in our shared apartment, I and Anke, a friend, came up with the idea of having oriental handicrafts manufactured according to our specifications in Marrakech and Damascus and selling them at festivals, craft fairs, and Christmas markets in Germany. After two exciting years together full of new experiences, Anke decided to accept a new, lucrative job offer and leave in 2006. Over the next few years, a functioning concept slowly emerged, with friendly and reliable family-run artisan businesses in Marrakech, a broader product range, great events, and fantastic employees. When my long-time partner Sandra became increasingly involved in the design process from 2010 onwards, the small company developed in a new direction, and the wide, colorful world of textiles became an integral part of us.

The textile sector

We have our summer textile collection manufactured primarily in Thailand in collaboration with family businesses. The winter textile collection of our own small label "Sternstunde," however, is manufactured with the help of family businesses in Nepal. We regularly visit the site ourselves when developing and ordering new collections, working directly with the tailors, knitters, and producers. This allows us to incorporate our own ideas in a direct and lively exchange, guaranteeing fair collaboration and fair working conditions.

The store and the online shop

With the coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of many Christmas markets, we took the bold step of launching two more passion projects in 2020: We opened the concept store "Ins Blaue" in our hometown of Kassel and launched our first online shop on the Etsy platform. Fortunately, both projects developed remarkably well, and we haven't regretted these decisions for a single day. With this experience, we have now decided to build our own Sternstunde store.
